30th Annual Tri-State Labor Day Parade & Family Celebration

It was an incredible honor and pleasure to attend the 30th Annual Tri-State Labor Day Parade & Family Celebration in Philadelphia.  I met many passionate and caring people fighting for economic security for all Americans.  Thousands came out!

Here I am with members of Laborer’s Local 135 (http://www.ldc-phila-vic.org/Local-Unions/local-135.cfm) from my home-county Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.  My great-grandfather, Michael McGinty, was a laborer who emigrated from Ireland and arrived in this country just a few steps from where I’m standing on Columbus Boulevard along the Delaware River.  Michael worked hard to make a better life for his family and his son John, my grandfather, was the first McGinty to go to college (at my alma mater Drexel University) and serve in the US Navy during both World Wars.

I walked in the parade and later had lunch with members of the AFGE (https://www.afge.org/) who represent many workers at the VA in Philadelphia where my wife, Lisa, is an emergency physician.
